Personally, I love that Westfield supports family farms and has a strong ethos for sustainability and ethical treatment of hens.

Over 40% of their facility is powered by the sun, they use environmentally friendly packaging, and most importantly, they supply delicious eggs across Pennsylvania!

Their hens do not live in cages, and they enjoy natural sunlight and a diet rich in alfalfa meal, soybeans, and other quality vitamins and minerals.

Cotner Farms are open about saying that egg quality begins with the quality of feed and living space of the hens.

Their hens are fed premium all-natural vegetarian feeds and live in exceptional conditions - and this comes across in the taste of their eggs.

Not All Eggs Are Equal

If you enjoy eggs and you’ve tried eggs from several farms, you’ll be well aware there can be a huge difference in the taste and quality.

This isn’t to do with the breed of the hen that laid the egg, it’s to do with how the hens are being treated.

You should always look for eggs that are labeled as ‘free range’ or ‘cage free’ as a starting point.

Caged or battery hens are generally kept in dire conditions. Not only is it cruel and inhumane to keep hens caged up all day, but the result is also eggs lacking in taste and nutritional content.

Ideally, hens should have space to roam free-range, be able to graze on bugs, insects, plants, etc. and be fed a high-quality organic feed.

In addition to this, they should have excellent living conditions and a high standard of care.

Happy chickens are healthy chickens, and healthy chickens lay the best eggs. It’s really as simple as that.

Do You Need a License to Sell Eggs in PA?

If you’re interested in selling or reselling eggs, my best advice is to speak with someone at The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture regulates the sale of eggs from small flocks, and you will need a license to sell eggs to the public.

The license and regulations can vary depending on your business type and the size of your operations, so I can’t give you exact details here.
