What’s a Good Name for a White Chicken?

When I talk about names and name ideas for chickens, it's amazing how many people ask me what a good name or the best name is.

For me, when it comes to picking a name it really comes down to finding a name that suits a chicken.

Each hen has their own personality and character. The easiest way to find the perfect name is to browse a load of names (like the lists below) and see what jumps out at you.

Don’t worry if you’re finding it difficult. I’ve named loads of chickens, cats, dogs, and who knows how many other pets - something always clicks at some point.

Some Tips to Help You Name Your Chicks

Still stuck for names? Take a deep breath, make yourself a cuppa, and see if these tips help:

Personality? - What is your hen or rooster's personality like? Look for characteristics that are unique to them and see how they tie in with a name.

What sounds right? - Let’s be honest, there are only a few names that sound right. It’s easy to start scratching names off of a list to get it down to a short few names. Be ruthless at first, if a name doesn’t sound right, pass on it.

What are you into? - Most people end up picking a name that relates to something they have an interest in. Maybe it’s movies, music, a TV show, a hobby, draw inspiration from what you know best.

Ask a friend - If you’re really stuck or are an indecisive person and will never be able to settle on a name, let someone else do it for you!
