This massive chicken breed was originally bred for cockfighting. They have natural spurs instead of the sharpened metal gaffes commonly used. They are extremely large and powerful.

Today, they are rare and are not used for egg or meat production. Hens will lay about 150 cream-colored eggs per year.

The Liege Fighter was developed in Belgium for cockfighting and meat production. Today, they remain rare both in Belgium and around the world. They are mainly raised by hobby breeders in the United States.

Some Things to Know About Liege Fighter Chicken

Liege Fighter chickens are very large, some exceeding 30 inches in height! They are intimidating and made primarily of muscle. They have the largest feet of any chicken breed, resembling turkey feet.

They generally have a black breast and tail with light reddish-golden neck and saddle feathers. Their comb and wattles are red, and their long, muscular legs are a dark grey, slate-like color.

Despite this breed’s intimidating appearance, they can actually be friendly towards their human handlers.

Roosters, though, are aggressive toward humans and animals they do not know. They are very predator savvy and protective of their flock.
